Outdoor activities in Ardèche
Ardèche is undoubtedly a hot spot county in terms of outdoor activities! With its countless rivers, canyons, hiking trails, and mountain roads in a completely breath-taking natural setting our department offers you an almost limitless invitation to practice an outdoor sport. Everything from the most relaxed hike to the most intensive mountain bike race and to the famous descent of the Ardèche river, everyone will surely find an activity that they will like and feel a deep satisfaction having done. As soon as you leave La Roubine a multitude of activities of all kinds are available to you.
Down the Ardèche river
Of course, the main activity in southern Ardèche is hands-down canoeing and the almost legendary descent of the Ardèche. Two conditions must be met to participate: be at least 7 years old and know how to swim at least 25m.
Several routes are on offer with varying degrees of difficulty, from 8km all the way to 30km only for the bravest at heart, with timings ranging between half a day to over several. For years we’ve been working in complete confidence with the rental company Alpha Bateaux, who will pick you up from the campsite and return you here at the end of your voyage. All you have to do is register the day before at reception.
River and stream fishing
For fishing enthusiasts, the Ardèche is a true paradise. There’s no need to even leave the campsite because you can fish for everything here: trout, carp, small fry… To fish in French waters, you must pay for a valid fishing license throughout Ardèche, even for children. These papers are only available online through the fishing federation but will grant you permission to fish in other rivers and streams in the department.
Tree climbing, canyoning and caving.
These are activities that can be practiced with the whole family and for which we provide all the necessary information through reception and in the “adresses to note” section of our website. Several tree climbing parks are active in Ardèche, all with their own identity and individual climbing routes. Canyoning is practiced about 45 minutes by car from La Roubine and is accessible to families with children from 5 years old.
Would you like to discover a cave just like our famous Ardèche ancestors? Then try a caving activity.
Other outdoor and nature activities
The department of Ardèche has made great efforts to develop cycling paths and green paths to take with your classic or electric bike so you can visit the region! Hiking is another enormous pastime through the gorges or the woods of Païolive. There’s also horse riding, mountain biking, bike racing, running, and quad biking to be made the most of in the countryside. You can fly over the campsite and gorges of Ardèche by microlight or go go-karting on the largest track in the region… the endless possibilities are all within reach. With all the mild, sunny weather it would be a shame not to take advantage of what’s on offer.
Even with a 30km radius of our campsite, there’s a multitude of outdoor activities available to you! Just ask at reception and we will line you up with the address and give you the necessary information.
